Lynx Equity Limited (Lynx) is a Canadian-based private equity firm. Our portfolio is currently made up of over 50 small to mid-sized companies across North America, Europe, and the UK. This number will grow as we acquire new businesses.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Human Resources Generalist (Sr. HRG) plays an important role within the Human Resources Department at the Lynx head office in Toronto. The Sr. HRG is a knowledgeable HR professional and business partner that is relied upon by the management team at Lynx and our portfolio companies for support. The Sr. HRG will have an opportunity to utilize their expertise and best practices in many areas of human resources. Due to the size of our group, the position offers a wide variety of opportunities to utilize current skills and develop new ones.

This is a challenging position that provides a rare opportunity for a Toronto-based HR professional to practice their skills internationally (by phone, email correspondence, and video conference). In addition to having a strong understanding of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, the successful candidate will be required to research and become familiar with and advise on legislation in other geographical areas where our portfolio companies are located when needed.

This position is suitable for a highly capable and proficient professional that is able to work in a fast-paced department and meet the daily demands of a role that supports multiple companies with their HR requirements that range in complexity and urgency.

Experience in American HR would be an asset. Having the willingness to learn and support our American companies is a requirement.

Consulting

  • Provide support, advice, guidance, tools, resources, and solutions with respect to various areas within the scope of human resources.
  • Promptly and professionally respond to internal and external inquiries and requests.
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance, and improvement of HR practices, policies, and employee handbooks for Lynx Equity Limited portfolio companies, with a focus on those located in America and Canada.
  • Research topics as needed to assist our portfolio companies.

Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationships with the individuals that you are required to support.

Compliance

  • Keep up-to-date with legislative changes.
  • Conduct HR audits to ensure compliance.
  • Review policies and manuals for compliance.
  • Assist with revamping policies and manuals to ensure compliance.

Employee Engagement

  • Identify levels of employee engagement.
  • Recommend employee engagement survey questions.
  • Create and implement surveys, and analyze results.
  • Prepare and present survey results.
  • Make recommendations to address results requiring corrective action.
  • Monitor engagement level progress.

Recruitment and Selection

  • Conduct needs assessments.
  • Research positions.
  • Recommend duties and responsibilities for job descriptions and job postings.
  • Conduct full-cycle recruitment and selection, including drafting job descriptions, posting jobs, reviewing applicant resumes and cover letters, pre-screening candidates, scheduling interviews and follow-up meetings, taking interview notes, and conducting reference checks.
  • Source, interview, and engage recruitment firms.
  • Prepare employment agreements and supporting documents and ensure that they are properly presented, executed, and stored.

Administration

  • Draft and proof employment agreements and other HR documents.
  • Compile data and statistics.
  • Create HR reports.
  • Draft correspondence.
  • Conduct workflow time studies.
  • Perform research.
  • Assist with and/or oversee various HR projects and initiatives.
  • Customize templates and documents.
  • Attend HR seminars and workshops (virtual and in-person).
  • Keep detailed HR records.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Human Resources Management degree or certificate (required)
  • 5 years of HR experience (required)
  • Experience working with American HR for 2+ years (preferred)
  • Experience working as an HR generalist for 2+ years (preferred)
  • Combinations of experience and education will be considered
  • American HR experience would be an asset
  • Ability to take direction and work collaboratively and independently as a reliable and highly functioning member of the HR team
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario Employment Standards Act
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WSIB would be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with multiple stakeholders across all levels of our organization
  • Ability to make sound decisions
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Highly ethical, impartial, diplomatic, respectful, flexible, organized, adaptable, patient, and accountable
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to travel to visit Company locations within and outside of Canada if/when required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

COMPENSATION & PERKS

  • Annual Salary CAD $80,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience
